Q. What is a SolarChoice Heater?
A SolarChoice Heater is a passive solar heater. It's passive because it has no moving parts and does not require connections of any kind. It looks like a vertical blind window treatment - but does a lot more. SolarChoice Heaters are the only window treatments that generate heat and insulate against heat loss.

Q. How do SolarChoice Heaters work?
Each blind draws cool air through the bottom and the heat absorbing metal insert warms the air up to 120 degrees. The warm air flows from the top of each blind and recirculates back into the room to help heat your home or office and dramatically lower your heating bills. The sun’s heat is working for you, naturally, every day. It’s simple to turn that energy into heating cost savings with SolarChoice Heaters. Learn more here: How It Works

Q. What rooms can I heat with a SolarChoice Heater?
You can heat any room in your home or office with a SolarChoice Heater. You will get the best results by installing SolarChoice Heaters in south-facing windows as they get the most direct sunlight in cold weather months.

Q: Do SolarChoice Heaters provide insulation for my windows?
Yes. With an R-value of 1.73 SolarChoice Heaters provide window insulation to prevent heat loss during heating months and help retain cool temperatures during months when air conditioning is used. (Many double glass, gas-filled windows have an R-value of approximately 2.0)

Q. What do you do with SolarChoice Heaters during warm weather months?
During the spring and summer the sun is significantly higher in the sky than during fall and winter. As a result, the south-facing windows that help heat your home with SolarChoice Heaters during cold weather months frequently don't receive direct sunlight during warm weather months (see illustration). As a result SolarChoice Heaters do not generate heat. You can simply use SolarChoice Heaters as you would any other window treatment and open and close them to meet your needs.
Should your south-facing windows receive direct sunlight during the spring and summer you can draw the blinds to the side or turn them perpendicular to the window. In these positions the heaters will not work. To help reduce energy costs during warm weather months SolarChoice Heaters can help insulate cool air against loss in your home, office or building when place in the closed position.

Q. What are the economic benefits of a SolarChoice Heater?
SolarChoice Heaters can lower your monthly heating bill up to 35%. Taking advantage of Federal, State and/or County solar energy tax credits, rebates and/or incentives can also lower your cost of purchasing the SolarChoice Heater passive solar heating system. Please consult your tax advisor to learn about incentives that are available to you.
NOTE: The 30% federal government rebate on the purchase of solar products - including SolarChoice Heaters - for commercial installations ends December 31, 2010. For more information click here.

Q. What is the maintenance on Solar Energy Heaters?
Maintenance on SolarChoice Heaters is very easy. Wiping the outside of each heater occasionally with a damp cloth or paper towel will keep your SolarChoice Heaters looking great for years to come.

Q. What kind of Warranty is offered?
SolarChoice Heaters are offered with a Limited Lifetime Warranty. You can read more here: Warranty
