Performance Research

SolarChoice Heaters have been tested on an on-going basis by engineering teams at the University of Minnesota, Duluth since the winter of 2008.

In the spring of 2009 the University reported that, when placed in south-facing windows, SolarChoice Heaters generated 5.5 BTU's per square inch per eight hour day. That means a SolarChoice Heater installation in a typical 8'x6' sliding glass door is capable of generating approximately 40,000 BTU's per day.

University research also confirmed in spring, 2009, that air exit temperatures of SolarChoice vertical window blinds reach 120 degrees and that air recycles through each vertical blind at the rate of 1.2 meters per second.

In January, 2010, Stork Technologies of Minneapolis tested SolarChoice Heaters for insulation capabilities and assigned an R-value to the Heaters of 1.73 - or roughly the same insulation value of a double pane, gas-filled window.
